Kathy is an operating advisor at Bessemer and the chief security officer at Discord, where she brings over 20 years of security industry experience to build security teams and right-size security initiatives for various growth stages of a company.
Prior to joining Discord, Kathy was responsible for building the security programs at Very Good Security and at GitLab.
Through her past open source research projects, Kathy is an internationally recognized malware expert, who has researched, developed, evaluated, and operationalized various solutions for detecting and preventing client-side attacks used by advanced persistent threats (APT).
Outside of being a security executive, Kathy is an investor at Silicon Valley CISO Investments and Firebolt Ventures.
She works closely with companies including Panther, Orca Security, Traceable AI, SafeBase, and more.
Kathy earned a B.S.
and M.S.
in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan.
Outside of work, she enjoys adventure travel, trying new cuisines, and helping others to grow in their security careers.
