He earned his Ph.D.
in microbiology and molecular biology from the University of Western Australia in 1995.
He received a B.S., cum laude with honors, in microbiology in 1989 and a B.S.
with double majors in organic chemistry and microbiology from the University of Western Australia in 1988.
