Goodluck Phumzile Tshelane was the Group Chief Executive Officer for NECSA SOC Ltd. NECSA is the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation.
Phumzile was appointed as the chief executive officer of NECSA with effect from 01 September 2012.
Prior to his NECSA CEO appointment, The last position held before joining NECSA involved serving as General Manager of the Eskom Nuclear New Build Division from June 2010.
Phumzile held various positions while employed by Eskom.
These include: Senior Physicist, Chief Physicist, Reactor Physics Group Manager, Executive Manager Technology Strategy, Senior Manager Technology Strategy, and General Manager Nuclear Build.
Tshelane has held a number of key positions in other entities including as Vice-President of the Nuclear Industry Association of South Africa (NIASA).
While on the NIASA board he also served in the finance committee.
Between 2006 and 2012 he served as an independent non-executive director at Necsa and as Steering Committee Chairperson of the South African Nuclear Human Asset and Research Programme (SANHARP).He was the founder member and Steering Committee Chairperson of SANHARP, a Department of Science and Technology (DST) funded initiative; and a Founder member and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the RGM School of Excellence.
Prior to joining Eskom, Phumzile Tshelane served the Non-Proliferation Council (NPC) Secretariat as a Techno-Economist At Eskom, Tshelane was a team member for the establishment and management of Women in Nuclear South Africa (WINSA).
Between 2016 and 2019 Tshelane was a member of the advisory board of the Kepco Institute of Nuclear Engineering Graduate School (KINGS) In 2018 and 2019 Tshelane was a member of the IAEA Director General’s Standing Advisory Committee on Nuclear Energy (SAGNE).
He holds a Bachelor of Science Honours (BSc Hons) in Nuclear Physics (WITS).
