Dr. Laurence S.
Irlicht is an Executive Director, Indexed & Quantitatives Equities at IFM Investors Pty Ltd. He has portfolio management responsibilities within both Global and Australian Equities.
His research spans the team’s Indexed, Quantitative and Smart Beta strategies.
Within the factor space, Dr. Irlicht has worked on the design and the efficient and risk controlled implementation of factor based strategies, as well as toward a better understanding of the drivers and risks to factor performance.
He has contributed to IFM factor based strategies including a global Smart Beta strategy, an enhanced RAFI strategy for Australian Equities, as well as low carbon and ESG tilted equities strategies.
Prior to IFM, Dr. Irlicht designed and implemented a macro-factor based equity strategy.
His previous roles have included Investment Director Quantitative Analysis at the Victorian Funds Management Corporation where his team managed a very early RAFI portfolio in the Australian market as well as other quantitative strategies, Investment Director (Asset Allocation) at Westpac Investment Management, and Senior Portfolio Manager at Rothschild Australia.
His experience covers the research, design and portfolio management of systematic strategies.
Dr. Irlicht has given many conference presentations and co-authored a number of articles within peer-reviewed academic journals including recent publications on factor investing, efficient back testing and the free kick available within certain global equity indexes.
He has previously lectured for the Macquarie Applied Finance Centre’s Masters of Applied Finance and regularly lectures for the CFA Society of Melbourne’s Review Course.
