Mr. Hoel joined Symons Capital Management in 2004 after careers in law and journalism.
He is a partner in the business and litigation departments of Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis LLP, a Philadelphia-based law firm, and former three-term chair of the American Bar Association's national Committee on Alcohol Beverage Practice.
Before attending law school, he was a reporter and editor for the Pittsburgh Press, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Austin (Texas) American-Statesman.
He earned degrees in writing and law (with honors) from the University of Pittsburgh.
Mr. Hoel has served as general counsel to the Pitt News, the Pitt student newspaper; Pi Kappa Alpha's local housing corporation and alumni association; and the Creative Nonfiction Foundation.
