Qiang Chen was the founder of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (founded in 1999) and held the title of Vice Chairman & General Manager in 2004.
He currently holds the position of Chairman at Jiangsu Rongsheng Heavy Industries Group, Chairman at Jiangsu Rongsheng Shipbuilding Engineering Research & Design, Vice Chairman at Nantong Association For Science & Technology (Jiangsu), and Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Harbin Engineering University, and Jiangsu University of Science & Technology.
He is also the Vice President of China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry, an Executive Member-Council of Shanghai Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers, the President of Jiangsu Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, and a Member-Technology Committee of Bureau Veritas SA (Belgium).
Dr. Chen's former positions include Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of China Huarong Energy Co. Ltd. (2004-2022), Member-Technology Committee of Lloyd's Register Group Ltd., Det Norske Veritas AS, and Germanischer Lloyd SE, Member-China National Committee of American Bureau of Shipping, Deputy Manager of Jiangnan Shipyard Group Co. Ltd. (1996-1999), and Council Member of China Classification Society.
He received his undergraduate degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1982, an MBA from China Europe International Business School in 2002, and a doctorate from Harbin Engineering University in 2002.
He also attended The Chinese University of Hong Kong for graduate studies.
