Star de l'investissement et philanthrope, Peter Lynch est le vice-président de Fidelity Management & Research, le leader mondial indépendant de la gestion d'actifs pour compte de tiers.
Diplômé de l'université de Boston en 1965, Peter Lynch obtient un MBA a la Wharton School University de Pennsylvanie en 1968.
Dès 1967, alors qu'il est encore étudiant, il décroche un poste en tant qu'analyste à la firme internationale de gestion de placements Fidelity avant de partir faire son service militaire. A son retour deux ans plus tard, il est embauché au département textile et métaux avant d'être promu en 1974, directeur de la recherche pour le fonds Fidelity Magellan.
De 1977 à 1990, Lynch gère le Magellan Fund. Durant cette période, le fond affiche 29,2% de rendement annuel et passe de 18 millions de dollars en actifs à 14 milliards de dollars, une performance qui vaut à Peter Lynch d'être considéré comme une éminence grise de l'investissement.
En 1990, Peter Lynch prend sa retraite. Fidelity continue sur sa lancée jusqu'en 1997 où le fonds est fermé à toute nouvelle souscription de parts. En janvier 2008, ses actifs ayant considérablement chuté, Fidelity décide de rouvrir les souscriptions.
Sa retraite, Peter Lynch la consacre à la philanthropie et à l'écriture d'ouvrages que tout bon investisseur se doit d'avoir lus. Promoteur d'un investissement individuel avisé, Peter Lynch défend l'idée que trop d'analyses tuent l'analyse. Pour lui, l'investisseur amateur a de bonnes chances de battre les financiers professionnels pour peu qu'il connaisse parfaitement l'entreprise dans laquelle il investit.
La Fondation Lynch, qui gère quelques 70 millions de dollars d'actifs, soutient l'éducation, les organisations culturelles et historiques, les hôpitaux et la recherche médicale.
