Birkelbach Management Corp.
Birkelbach Management Corp. Investment ManagersFinance Birkelbach Management Corp. (BMC) manages socially responsible portfolios that consider corporate sustainability and shareholder accountability. They invest in companies that have products, services and methods of operation that generate positive opportunities for economic growth and enhance the human condition. BMC targets companies that avoid vulnerability to government intervention, legal entanglements and the negativity of public opinion. The firm employs a proprietary 5-point investment approach that is based on: (1) avoidance screening (2) quantitative methodologies (3) technical methodologies (4) qualitative stock analysis and (5) macro economic analysis. BMC's 5-point process begins with an avoidance screening of the stocks in the S&P 500 to eliminate companies whose main products involve the manufacture of alcohol and tobacco and companies that are involved in gambling or the production of weapons. The firm next employs a proprietary quantitative methodology to identify a list of stocks that exhibit returns that are highly correlated with the S&P 500 and should help the portfolio achieve excellent returns in up markets. They use a second methodology to identify a list of stocks which exhibit low correlation returns with respect to the S&P 500 and should outperform the market in down markets. This methodology is used to identify buy candidates and to monitor portfolios for sell candidates. Next, BMC uses technical methodology to determine what phase of a bell curve cycle a stock is in and what short-term, intermediate and long-term trends the stock exhibits. They also use a proprietary overbought/oversold indicator. In the next step, BMC employs qualitative stock analysis that is based on financial criteria. They seek to identify companies with consistent earnings and dividends, but also consider investments in companies with reasonable multiples or stock price/earnings ratios. At this point, BMC evaluates companies on the basis of corporate sustainability. Lastly, BMC employs macro economic analysis that considers economic criteria and technical indicators to determine what specific investment strategy they should employ. BMC offers portfolios based on two investment strategies. Their growth portfolios incorporate the firm's 5-point strategy with a fully invested position and only quarterly changes. The firm's aggressive growth portfolios incorporate the same 5-point strategy with quarterly changes and also incorporate a strategy that allows the portfolio to go up to 30% cash. | Fondateur | 01/10/2011 |
