Caterpillar Inc. est le 1er producteur mondial de matériels de construction et d'exploitation minière, de moteurs diesel et à gaz naturel, et de turbines à gaz industrielles. Le CA par activité se répartit comme suit :
- vente d'engins et de moteurs (94,2%) : engins de terrassement et de construction (pelleteuses, élévateurs, bulldozers, etc.), tracteurs agricoles et forestiers, moteurs et turbines (destinés aux poids lourds, aux bateaux, aux machines industrielles et aux centrales électriques), systèmes de trains de roulement, circuits et composants hydrauliques, etc. ;
- prestations de services financiers (5,2%) ;
- autres (0,6%).
La répartition géographique du CA est la suivante : Amérique du Nord (51,6%), Europe-Afrique-Moyen Orient (20,4%), Asie-Pacifique (18,1%) et Amérique latine (9,9%).
