Headquartered in Frankfurt, the firm was founded in 1983 and provides discretionary and/or non-discretionary services to a variety of types of clients, including one or more affiliated investment advisers.

Oppenheim VAM Kapitalanlage GmbH (OVAM) is an asset management firm based in Cologne, and a wholly-owned subsidiary of OKAG-Oppenheim Kapitalanlagegesellschaft. Previously known as Gen Re Capital GmbH, the firm was established in 2000 as a subsidiary of Cologne Reinsurance Co., also known as Kölnische Rückversicherungs-Gesellschaft AG and controlled by Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. (NYSE: BRK). OKAG acquired OVAM in 2010. OVAM manages a few specialist mutual funds. The bulk of their activity consists in managing segregated portfolios on behalf of insurance companies and other institutions such as professional pension schemes, pension funds and supplementary pension plans. In addition to portfolio management, they provide a variety of services including asset liability modeling, booking services and regulatory reporting.
