McGinnis is the founder of The FMR Group LLC, which was founded in 1982.
She held the title of Principal from 1982 to 1994.
Currently, she is the Director of The Congressional Management Foundation and a Professor at the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy & Public Administration since 2011.
Her former positions include President & Chief Executive Officer of the Council for Excellence in Government from 1994 to 2008, Independent Director of Caleres, Inc. from 1999 to 2020, Director of Logistics Management Institute from 2004 to 2018, and Professor at the McCourt School of Public Policy from 2009 to 2011.
She also held a Principal position at the US Department of Commerce (District of Columbia).
Ms. McGinnis received a graduate degree from Harvard University and an undergraduate degree from the University of Mary Washington.
