Mr. Smelek is chairman of the board of Extended Systems, a Boise-based, publicly held mobile and Internet connectivity company.
He also serves as president and CEO of The Network Group, a technical services consulting firm.
He has served as a director of Extended Systems since June 1994, and during his tenure also held the posts of president and chief executive officer from June 1994 to February 1996.
Prior to this, Mr. Smelek served for 37 distinguished years with Hewlett-Packard.
In 1973, he selected Boise, Idaho, as a Hewlett-Packard site and launched them into the printer business, culminating with the introduction of the LaserJet printer in 1984.
At HP, he also served as vice president and general manager of its mass storage group.
