Profil

Mr. Stahlman brings to Caris & Company over 30 years experience in the computer industry.
Mr. Stahlman returned to the Street in 2003 after spending several years as a venture capitalist, commentator, and consultant to companies (including IBM and News Corp.) and governments, among them China.
Most recently, Mr. Stahlman was a Senior Analyst at AmTech Research, where he re-emerged into the national spot light with prescient calls on companies such as SUNW, IBM, HPQ, and DELL.
Mr. Stahlman is known for his fundamental analysis and industry cyclical viewpoint.
In the early to mid 1980's, he took his experience in the minicomputer, PC, broadband and LAN businesses and applied it to the emerging network computer industry at Sanford Bernstein.
He was the first to recommend Sun Microsystems and to publish research on technology-driven waves of growth.
Following his critically acclaimed tenure at Sanford Bernstein, Mr Stahlman joined Alex Brown, where he organized the New Media investment-banking team, which then managed the IPOs for America Online and Creative Laboratories, among others.
His coverage of Sun Microsystems as well as Compaq, Apple and others led to his inclusion in the original Institutional Investor All-Star Team for Microcomputers.
He was named Analyst of the Year by Upside and Electronic Business magazines and has been widely cited in the business press as well as appearing frequently on CNN and CNBC.
His article for Harvard Business Review, "Why IBM Failed," described the rise and anticipated the collapse of the Internet boom.
Mr. Stahlman graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Science degree in Genetics and Philosophy and has completed work towards two separate doctoral programs in Molecular Biology and Theology at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Chicago, respectively.
Mr. Stahlman holds the Series 7 and 63 registrations.
