Klaus Topfer is currently the Director of the Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction.
He previously served as the General Director of the United Nations in New York.
From 1998 to 2006, he was the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme.
He also served as the Founding Director of the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies.
Dr. Topfer was a Member of the Deutscher Bundestag from 1990 to 1998 and a Member of the Steering Committee of the Christlich Demokratische Union Deutschlands from 1992 to 1998.
He earned a doctorate degree from the University of Münster in 1968.
