Dr. Paton began his career with Scottish Mutual Assurance as an Investment Analyst.
He then joined Abbey National in 1990 as a US Portfolio Manager, progressing to Head of North American Equities in 1992.
He managed the Abbey Technology Unit Trust from 2000 to 2004.
In 2004, Dr. Paton joined Henderson Global Investors where he was the Director of Technology and managed the Henderson Global Technology Fund and the Henderson Horizon Global Technology Fund.
He joined Ignis Asset Management (formerly Resolution Asset Management) in April 2009 as an Investment Manager in the US team.
Dr. Paton graduated from Strathclyde University with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Mathematics in 1983, after he gained his Bachelor of Science degree in 1978.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society and a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.
