Ferdi Schüth studied chemistry (doctorate Dr.rer.nat.
1988) and law (1st state examination 1989) in Münster.
After his habilitation with Klaus Unger in Mainz in 1995, he was appointed professor at the University of Frankfurt.
Since 1998 he has been Director of the MPI for Coal Research in Mülheim.
He has received a number of highly regarded awards, serves as Vice President of the Max Planck Society and is editor of the journal Chemistry of Materials.
His research interests are the basics of solid state formation, catalysis, nanostructured materials and energy storage.
