Prior to joining NC IDEA, he was the Chairman and CEO of Osprey Systems, a venture-backed software services company he founded in Charlotte in 1992 and sold in 2002.
Mr. Rizzo spent the first 13 years of his career with IBM in various leadership positions, ultimately serving as the Trading Area General Manager for the $800M business operations of North and South Carolina.
He is also Managing Partner & Co-Founder at IDEA Fund Partners LLC.

Mr. Rizzo is an active proponent of North Carolina’s entrepreneurial community and has served on the boards of several key organizations such as the CED, the Kenan Institute Center for Entrepreneurship, and as a past chairman of NCTA.
Mr. Rizzo has a BA in Economics from William and Mary and has studied at the Wharton School’s Financial Services Institute and the Brookings Public Policy Institute.
