Dr. Cambou is responsible for sourcing, researching, evaluating, negotiating, and monitoring investment opportunities in the life
sciences sector.
He has 22 years of international business and research and development experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries
He started his career with Roussel-Uclaf (now Aventis Pharma) as senior scientist in biotechnology research.
He later joined Farmitalia Carlo Erba (now Pharmacia) and then Rhone-Poulenc Rorer/RPR (now Aventis Pharma) in various research and development capacities.
While with Rhone-Poulenc Rorer, he spent two years in Japan with the joint venture RPR-Chugai Pharmaceuticals.
Bernard then moved into business development, relocating to the U.S.
as head of biotechnology evaluation for Centeon (now Aventis Behring), an RPR-Hoescht biopharmaceutical joint venture.
At Centeon he was involved in various in and out-licensing transactions most notably with Merck, Inhale Corp., Medarex and Kaketsuken (Japan).
He was also involved or led various M&A transactions such as Applied Immune Sciences (US), Delta Biotechnology (UK), and GenTrec (Germany).
Dr. Cambou is an engineer in Agronomy and majored in Microbiology at the National Institute of Agronomy in France.
He is a graduate in Molecular Biology from the Pasteur Institute.
He obtained his Ph.D.
from the University of Technology of Compiegne in Biochemistry and Enzymology and spent two years as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Enzymology at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Dr. Cambou also received an M.B.A.
at Ecole Superieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales.
He relocated to Pittsburgh to join Birchmere Ventures as its first life sciences partner.
