Amos Bairoch

The Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics is an academic not-for-profit organization based in Basel, Switzerland. The institute provides over 160 high-quality databases and software tools to the life science community. Its mission is to lead and coordinate the field of bioinformatics. SIB experts and resources are involved in developing dedicated data services, analysis tools, and improving knowledge sharing to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. The institute has established close partnerships and collaborations with leading institutions at national and international levels. SIB values equality, diversity, and inclusion and trains the next generation of bioinformaticians to ensure that life scientists make the best use of bioinformatics and SIB's resources.

Geneva Bioinformatics (Genebio) SA develops and provides software solutions for bioinformatics companies. It offers SmileMS, it identifies small molecules by mass spectrometry for fast routine analysis and in-depth research; Melanie, it provides solutions to shorten the path from data acquisition to protein information; Phenyx, a software platform for the identification and characterization of proteins and peptides from mass spectrometry data, and MegaClust, a service allowing companies to outsource the analysis of their flow cytometry datasets. The company was founded by Ron D. Appel, Amos Bairoch, and Denis F. Hochstrasser in 1997 and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
