Il crée pour eux le label Polo. En 1967, il leur rachète le nom Polo et, grâce à l'obtention d'un prêt de 50 000 dollars auprès de Norman Hilton, il ouvre sa boutique de cravates et de polos en 1968.

En 1970, Ralph Lauren gagne le City Award pour la création exclusive d'une ligne d'habillement pour homme. Durant cette période, il crée une ligne féminine qui voit pour la première fois l'emblème de la marque : le cavalier joueur de polo. Dans les années 80, Ralph souhaite diversifier sa gamme de produits et se lance dans la production d'accessoires pour la maison.
