Dr. Sydney Brenner is Chairman-Scientific Advisory Board at Acidophil LLC, Co-Founder at Population Genetics Technologies Ltd., and a Senior Advisor at Red Abbey Venture Partners LLC.
Dr. Brenner's most significant contributions were recently recognized in the award of the 2002 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine to him and two colleagues for their discoveries concerning the genetic regulation of organ development and programmed cell death.
He had been associated with a number of successful biotechnology companies, including CombiChem, Inc. and Lynx Therapeutics, Inc. Dr. Brenner received an MB, BCh Degree from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, and a D.Phil.
from the University of Oxford.
In 1957, he joined what was to become the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, England.
He served as Director of the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology from 1979 to 1986, when he left to take up the Directorship of the MRC Molecular Genetics Unit.
