He began his investment career at Invesco in 1987, based in London.
In 1993, he joined Baring Asset Management and was based in Asia as a Director for six years while managing the successful Baring Australian Growth Fund, which won several investment awards.
He returned to London as the Lead Manager on the Baring Global Resources Fund.
While at Baring, he was responsible for managing investments in excess of US$1.0b.
In 2006, he co-founded Hexam Capital, a joint venture with Resolution/Ignus and helped establish the Hexam Global Resources Absolute Return Fund.
In 2008, he joined Capital Elements to develop a long/short equity fund focused on the renewable and alternative energy sector.
He joined Tiburon in June 2009 to launch and co-manage Tiburon Terra Fund.
Mr. Payne graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Massey, New Zealand in 1982.
