Senior Executive Vice President - Treasury, Finance & Asset Management, since 2004.
Named to the additional position of Chief Financial Officer in 2005.
From 2001-2003, Héctor Méndez was EVP and Treasurer, and then President of Puerto Rico’s Government Development Bank, the central bank of the Commonwealth, responsible for investments, trading and risk management of a $3 billion investment portfolio and issuance of $20 billion in bonds, the largest series of financings in Puerto Rico’s history.
Following GDB, Mr. Méndez was President of R-G Portfolio Management, where he established a proprietary mutual fund and asset management program for R&G Financial of San Juan.
Prior to GDB, he founded and was President of Caribbean Asset Management Co. of San Juan, with $125 million under management, and was EVP and Treasurer of Eurobank, of San Juan.
From 1977 to 1995, Mr. Méndez was with the Puerto Rico subsidiary of Banco Central Hispano (BCH) S.A.
Madrid.
In 1985, he became Treasurer and SVP, in charge of a $1.5 billion investment portfolio and $2.5 billion in managed trust assets.
In 1992, he became President of BCH’s International Banking Entity (IBE), which grew to more than $500 million in assets.
In 1994, he became EVP of BCH and a Director of the Board of Directors.
